SolarCity, Forest City Partner On 24 MW Solar Project

Construction has begun on a planned 24 MW solar project by Forest City Military Communities and SolarCity to provide solar power to 6,500 military family residences at Ohana Military Communities, which serves Navy Region Hawaii and Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

The project is part of SolarCity's SolarStrong program, a five-year plan to build more than $1 billion in solar energy projects for U.S. military housing communities. SolarCity and Forest City have already finished installing the first 700 kW of solar capacity at Marine Corps Base Hawaii and will soon initiate the first installations on Navy Region Hawaii.

Primarily financed by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the new project at Marine Corps Base Hawaii and Navy Region Hawaii is expected to help the U.S. Department of Defense make additional progress toward its 25% by 2025 renewable energy goal.
