Hawaii's Coconut Island (Moku o Lo'e), which was made famous by the popular 1960s television series Gilligan's Island, will be home to a new PV project installed by SolarCity.
The Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Hawaii, which is based on the island, has signed a power purchase agreement with SolarCity to power the institute with solar electricity for the next 20 years.
SolarCity has begun to install a series of photovoltaic solar systems on the rooftops of buildings at the institute. The arrays will total approximately 260 kW, SolarCity says.
