SOLON Corp. says it has begun construction on a 460 kW solar photovoltaic system for a water treatment facility in Gila Bend, Ariz.
SOLON will engineer, design, construct and commission the fixed-tilt system, which is expected to be completed later this year. After the project begins operation, SOLON will continue to operate and maintain the system on behalf of the town.
The project development and system ownership is being financed through a grant from the State of Arizona as a part of the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority grant awarded to the town of Gila Bend for drinking-water infrastructure improvements. Once completed, the system is expected to offset 86% of the water treatment facility's energy usage, SOLON adds.
