Southern Power's 30 MW Spectrum tracking solar photovoltaic facility has begun commercial operation in Clark County, Nev.

The 311-acre site was built and will be operated and maintained by SunEdison. Southern Power and partner Turner Renewable Energy acquired the project from SunEdison in September 2012. Electricity generated by the Spectrum solar facility will serve Nevada Power Co. under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The Spectrum solar facility is one of five projects jointly acquired by Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy. The other projects are the 20 MW Apex solar facility, also in Clark County; the 30 MW Cimarron solar facility near Raton, N.M.; the 2.5 MW Granville solar facility in N.C.; and the 139 MW Campo Verde solar project in Imperial County, Calif.
