Boeing says its subsidiary Spectrolab has set a world record by converting more energy from the sun into electricity than any other ground-based solar cell without solar concentration.
The efficiency of 37.8% was verified by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory. According to Boeing, the cell uses two or more materials leveraging Boeing technology that makes semiconductor materials more reliable.
Spectrolab believes this solar cell technology can also attain higher levels of efficiency – possibly more than 45%.
