Spire Corp. says it has been awarded a contract from Federal Prisons Industries Inc. to supply integrator services for photovoltaic systems for federal customers of UNICOR. The contract is for a five-year term, with five one-year renewal options at a total value not to exceed $75 million over the contract period, with no guaranteed minimum.
‘We have provided UNICOR with a PV module production line for its prison system in Otisville, N.Y., and another to be established at the correctional facility in Sheridan, Ore.,’ says Roger G. Little, chairman and CEO of Spire. ‘These lines are used to train people for entry into the fast-growing PV industry workforce and to produce modules for federal systems. We have an existing systems teaming agreement with UNICOR and are very pleased to have received this [engineering, procurement and construction] contract, which further expands our relationship.’
