Ontario-based Strathcona Solar Initiatives has installed three rooftop solar arrays for community buildings in the Thousand Islands region of eastern Ontario.
Strathcona Solar designed and installed 10 kW solar arrays on the flat roofs of several municipal buildings throughout Leeds Township. The systems are on the main office, a library and a fire training center.
All systems are contracted under the feed-in tariff (FIT) program of the Independent Electricity System Operator -Â formerly the Ontario Power Authority -Â that guarantees a fixed price per kilowatt-hour over a 20-year term.
‘The township looks at the investment in these three projects as the first of several steps in implementing its energy management and demand conservation plan and in promoting the use of renewable energy in an economically responsible fashion,’ says Michael Touw, director of public works for the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.
