SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials Inc., has signed an agreement with Chilean mining and steel group CAP to construct what the companies expect to be the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in Latin America.
The project is designed to have an installed capacity of 100 MW and will be located in the Atacama Desert of Chile. It will produce as much as 15% of the energy needs for CAP, an iron ore mining, steel producer and steel processor group.
The plant will be built using more 300,000 Silvantis monocrystalline silicon modules and trackers from SunEdison. Once completed, the project will be managed by the SunEdison Renewable Operations Center.
