The Town of Newmarket, Ontario, and SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials Inc., have announced an agreement to deploy solar photovoltaic systems on four municipal facility rooftops.
The project will be financed, deployed, monitored and maintained by SunEdison and is expected to total 1.17 MW of solar capacity. According to the company, the installations are expected to generate more than 23 GWh over 20 years.
The Town of Newmarket will earn revenue from the leased rooftops, and the energy produced by the systems will be purchased by the Ontario Power Authority under the province's feed-in-tariff program.
