SunEdison Inc. has signed definitive agreements to acquire five portfolios of renewable energy projects as well as several development companies.
The operational portfolio includes nearly 80 MW of solar capacity in India, China and South Africa. The portfolio also includes substantial wind and hydropower assets throughout Asia and South America.
The corporate acquisitions are LAP Holding BV, which is a Chile-based hydropower and wind developer, and two wind development and operations and maintenance subsidiaries of China-based Honiton Energy Holding Ltd.
In addition to the above-mentioned deals, SunEdison obtained a $175 million investment from Blackstone Group, Everstream Opportunities Fund II and Altai Capital Management. SunEdison also secured a $362 million nonrecourse loan from JPMorgan Chase Bank, Barclays, Citi and Morgan Stanley for the funding of third-party acquisitions of operating renewable energy projects.
Through these combined transactions, SunEdison says it will secure 757 MW of operating projects and 1.9 GW of third-party ‘right of first offer’ projects, of which 534 MW are operating.
