SunPower Corp. says it has signed an agreement with Iberdrola Renewables to design and build a 20 MW photovoltaic project, called Copper Crossing, on 144 acres of former private agricultural land in Pinal County, Ariz.
Iberdrola Renewables is the developer, owner and operator of the project. The company will sell the electricity under a long-term contract to utility provider Salt River Project for distribution on the region's utility grid.
Copper Crossing will use the SunPower Oasis Power Plant product, a modular solar power that integrates the SunPower T0 Tracker with SunPower's E19 series of solar panels and pre-manufactured system cabling.
The solar power plant, which began construction this month, is expected to be fully operational in 2011.
