Photovoltaic (PV) cell and module manufacturer Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd. has completed a 500 kW solar system at the San Francisco International Airport's new Terminal 3. Close to 3,000 Suntech solar modules were installed by San Francisco-based BASS Electric. Mayor Gavin Newsom unveiled the new solar system at a press conference on Sept. 21.
‘This landmark solar project reflects Suntech's growing presence in the U.S. solar market and helps to build the profile of solar energy as an important component of the total energy mix,’ says Steven Chan, Suntech's chief strategy officer. ‘BASS Electric's expertise was instrumental in ensuring the successful and on-schedule completion of this project.’
According to BASS Electric, the Terminal 3 solar energy system is estimated to generate an annual energy saving of 669,000 kWh.
