Wuxi Suntech is providing 7.5 MW of its VDE photovoltaic modules for off-grid rural electricity projects in Malaysia.
The effort falls under a government initiative to provide solar hybrid electricity systems for villages and schools. The hybrid systems integrate PV modules with diesel generators and battery storage systems. The project is scheduled to unroll through 2017.
‘Many locations in the region are only accessible via boat or helicopter and have previously been left to rely on diesel generation for power," says Samuel Zhang, regional sales director at Suntech. ‘These new micro-grid systems will help to significantly reduce diesel costs.’
