An international group of companies representing the thin-film PV industry value chain has formed a new industry coalition called PVthin.
Organized as a Belgium-based nonprofit, PVthin was created to strengthen global energy security and help create sustainable energy infrastructures by promoting the social, economic and environmental benefits of thin-film solar photovoltaic technologies, according to the group.
PVthin represents companies committed to the development of thin-film solar PV products based on chalcogenide compounds. The founding members are Abound Solar, Arendi, Calyxo, First Solar, GE Energy and 5N Plus.
Thin-film PV now accounts for approximately 18% of global PV sales, the coalition says.
