Tioga Energy, a provider of renewable energy services to commercial, government and nonprofit organizations, has completed two solar electric systems for the Town of West Hartford, Conn. Totaling 160 kW, the project serves as Tioga Energy's first in the state.
The rooftop solar installations are now powering the municipality-owned West Hartford Department of Public Works and the Bishops Corner Library, providing approximately 34% and 48% of the facilities' electricity needs, respectively. Branford, Conn.-based Aegis Solar managed installation services for both systems.
With a SurePath solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in place from Tioga Energy, the town will purchase the power generated by the systems at a rate lower than that offered by the local utility, Tioga says. Over the course of the 20-year PPA, the town will save an estimated $244,000 in electricity expenses.
