Energy companies Total and GDF SUEZ, as well as their common solar cells manufacturing subsidiary Photovoltech, have joined the IMEC industrial affiliation program (IIAP) to work on crystalline silicon solar cells.
The multi-partner R&D program concentrates on sharply reducing silicon use, while increasing the efficiency of solar cells. IIAP research will substantially lower the cost for solar energy, according to IMEC.
