Trina Solar Ltd. has signed a contract with Fresh Fruits Co., a food storage and logistics company in Amman, Jordan, to build a 2 MW rooftop solar power plant on the company's stores and warehouses.

Under the contract, Trina Solar is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project. The project will use Trina Solar TSM-PC05A Honey 260 W modules the company says are well suited for the dry and high-temperature conditions prevalent in the Middle East.

Trina Solar says the project will be the first megawatt-scale rooftop solar power project in Jordan. The array is expected to produce 3.2 GWh of electricity per year. Construction is scheduled to start in March and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.

‘Oil- and natural gas-importing countries like Jordan are vulnerable to fluctuations in global oil and natural gas prices,’ says Jifan Gao, chairman and CEO of Trina Solar. ‘Solar energy provides Jordan with a viable alternative, and we see huge potential for growth in this market.’
