Tyco Electronics Introduces Solklamp Grounding Bolt

0

Tyco Electronics Ltd., a global provider of engineered electronic components, network solutions, specialty products and undersea telecommunication systems, has released the Solklamp grounding bolt.

According to the company, this bolt shortens the installation time required to ground modules in a solar array. The threaded bolt, secured with a supplied one-piece lock washer-nut, inserts through the ground hole of a solar module aluminum frame and penetrates its surface to establish a reliable ground path.

The bolt handles 6 AWG to 12 AWG (13.3 mm2 and 3.3 mm2) solid, uninsulated copper wire. The six-second, short-term current test indicates that the product handles 1530 Amps with 6 AWG ground wire. In the UL 486A/B pull-out test, the grounding bolt provides 100 pounds (45.3 kg) retention with 6 AWG wire.

The product meets the requirements of UL 1703 for safety in flat-plate photovoltaic modules and panels, as well as the UL 467 requirements for grounding and bonding equipment.
