BIRD Energy, a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, has announced a new request for proposals (RFP) for U.S.-Israel joint projects with a focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The current RFP is in its seventh funding cycle. The conditional grant per project covers up to 50% of the associated research and development (R&D) costs and reaches a maximum of $1 million per project.
To be considered, a project proposal must include R&D cooperation between two companies or cooperation between a company and a university/research institution (one from the U.S. and one from Israel). The proposal should have significant commercial potential, and the project outcome should lead to commercialization, explains BIRD Energy.
The following areas of R&D are within the scope of the call: wind and solar power, alternative fuels, advanced vehicle technologies, smart grids, water-energy nexus, or any other renewable energy/energy efficiency technology.
The application process is Web-based and requires prior discussion with the BIRD Foundation, which administers BIRD Energy and has been promoting cooperation between U.S. and Israeli companies in various technology areas since 1977.
Initial concept submissions are due by June 29, and full proposals are due by Aug. 11. Decisions on projects selected for funding will be made on Oct. 24.
