Centrotec Sustainable AG subsidiary Ubbink BV, based in the Netherlands, has opened what the company says is East Africa's first solar module factory.
Ubbink East Africa Ltd., located in Naivasha, Kenya, will manufacture approximately 30,000 photovoltaic modules annually, with a focus on products for small, off-grid systems to be installed in Africa. Target applications include private residences, village power systems, schools, hospitals, water-supply infrastructure and telecommunications systems.
All factory employees were trained in the Netherlands. The company says its new factory is currently producing more than 100 Kenya Bureau of Standards-certified modules per day.
