VA Funds Solar Energy Projects At Five Hospitals

0

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded $56.7 million in contracts to install solar photovoltaic systems at five of its medical centers.

Projects are slated for Oklahoma City; Temple, Texas; Amarillo, Texas; Loma Linda, Calif.; and Los Angeles. The VA says it selected the sites based on feasibility studies that determined the most ideal locations to invest in on-site renewable energy projects.

The VA aims to increase its renewable energy consumption to 15% of annual electricity usage by 2013 and says these five solar PV systems will help it meet that goal. Since 2009, the VA has invested over $300 million in renewable energy projects.
