Germany-based Via Solis GmbH has completed a manufacturing facility for its SmartFlex building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) facades in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The factory is able to produce modules measuring up to 1.7 meters by 3.5 meters with a maximum output of 750 W. In addition to manufacturing rectangular modules, the production line can create square, triangular and round modules. These can be produced in a variety of colors by using differently colored module glass, laminating films or solar cells.Â
The production, preparation and stringing of the BIPV elements is largely automated. Via Solis says the factory has an annual production capacity of 50 MW. A total of EUR 37 million was invested in building the PV cell and module production line. The European Union's Seventh Framework Program for Research and Innovation is contributing EUR 2.9 million.
