Washington Gas Energy Systems Inc. has signed a contract with Rio Rancho Public Schools, solar project developer AMSOLAR and systems supplier Conergy to build, own and operate two 1.215 MW solar arrays at the V. Sue Cleveland and Rio Rancho high schools in Rio Rancho, N.M.

Washington Gas Energy Systems will own and operate the systems under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The project was developed by AMSOLAR and will be constructed by Conergy, which is also supplying the equipment for both schools.

The company says the project is currently under construction and will be completed this summer. When complete, annual output is expected to produce 80% of the electricity required to power the two high schools.
