Westwood Renewables LLC has been selected to provide design and engineering services on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's (MPCA) solar pilot project. The project will be a large-scale solar photovoltaic facility located on a closed landfill site in Olmsted County near Rochester, Minn.
The solar facility will be up to 2 MW in size, making it among the largest in the state, Westwood Renewables says. The project is estimated to be operational in 2011. The MPCA will use data from this pilot plant as a model for the state's other closed landfill sites, which have the potential to be similarly developed and contribute distributed energy to communities and utilities around Minnesota.
