As part of its proposed 2010-2012 Conservation Improvement Program (CIP), Xcel Energy is planning to introduce its Solar Rewards program, which would provide rebates to customers who install solar photovoltaic systems of up to 40 kW.

‘We believe solar can be a viable resource in Minnesota for meeting our customers' energy needs, and we want to better understand how it can work on our system,’ comments Judy Poferl, a regional vice president with Xcel Energy.

The CIP plan's total budget is more than $280 million, the utility says. Pending approval by the Minnesota Office of Energy Security, Xcel Energy will begin implementing and expanding programs next year.

The utility has not announced the precise rebate amounts customers will be able to obtain under the Solar Rewards program.
