Electricity and natural-gas company Xcel Energy has proposed a ‘backup power’ fee for residential customers with solar systems installed.

The company would charge a fee of $0.026/kWh based on the actual generating capacity of the home's system, according to a report from Boulder, Colo.-based Daily Camera.

Xcel Energy says that it pays for backup electricity for homes powered by solar. The Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing on the new fee this week.
