SunEdison and Xcel Energy's regional operating company, Southwestern Public Service Co., have begun construction on a 54 MW photovoltaic solar deployment to be built in Lea and Eddy counties, N.M.

The project, which is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2011, comprises utility-scale PV arrays on five sites that are expected to deliver more than combined 112 million kWh of energy in their first year of operation.

The installations will be built, financed and maintained by SunEdison under a 20-year solar power services agreement with Xcel Energy, which will buy the solar energy generated by the solar power plants.
