Martifer Solar is building a 30 MW photovoltaic plant in Baja California Sur, Mexico, for Gauss Energia, a development company.
The Aura Solar I project will incorporate approximately 132,000 modules installed on single-axis trackers over a nearly 250-acre site and is expected to have a capacity of 82 GWh per year.
Martifer Solar is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction services of the plant and will also provide the operation and maintenance services upon completion, scheduled for this August.
According to Martifer Solar, the project is Mexico's first utility-scale solar project under a power purchase agreement contract between a private company and Comisión Federal de Electricidad, Mexico's federal power company. The project is being funded by local development bank Nafin, International Finance Corp. and Corporación Aura Solar.
‘This project in Mexico will open the way for the development of the photovoltaic sector in the country,’ says Hector Olea, CEO of Gauss Energia, adding that there are currently only 13 MW of installed PV capacity in Mexico.
