Caleffi, a manufacturer of components for hydronic and solar heating systems, has donated solar water heating systems to two teams competing in the 2009 Solar Decathlon. The Solar Decathlon, an educational project of the U.S. Department of Energy, is a global contest held every other year in which college student teams compete to design, build and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered house.

Caleffi provided the systems for the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee's home, called Meltwater, and for the University of Arizona's entry, called SEED[pod].

‘The Solar Decathlon is a great opportunity for the next generation of solar professionals to use their creativity and innovation to spark new technologies and design elements that maximize energy efficiency,’ says Rex Gillespie, Caleffi's director of marketing. ‘It's also an important venue for educating the public about the possibilities of renewable energy and the bright concepts to come.’
