SiXtron Advanced Materials, a company that has developed a new process for silicon solar cell anti-reflection coatings, has secured $2 million in financing from ATEL Ventures.
SiXtron says its technology provides an alternative to the incumbent solution of silane, a pyrophroic gas used in large quantities by solar cell manufacturers. The highly scalable and cost-effective thin-film process solutions created by SiXtron are designed to seamlessly integrate with current solar cell manufacturing practices.
By eliminating the problems associated with the use of silane, Sixtron says its technology will reduce the dollar-per-watt manufacturing cost of silicon solar cells.
